Volunteers

The Melbourne Tram Museum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of Melbourne’s tramway history. It is staffed entirely by un-paid volunteers.

We are always looking for volunteers to contribute to the running and development of our museum. Our volunteers perform the following work:

  • acting as museum guides or working in our museum shop during open days
  • support the preservation and interpretation of Melbourne’s tramway heritage through development of exhibitions
  • preserve heritage tramway items associated with Melbourne through development and operation of our collection management policies and practices
  • promote the Melbourne Tramway Museum
  • assist in maintaining the facilities at the depot.

Enthusiasm and commitment to conserving Melbourne’s tramway history is essential. We are keen to find the right role for you and will provide training as required.

We are particularly interested in anyone with the following skills:

  • retail
  • graphic design
  • cataloguing and preservation of museum material
  • marketing
  • carpentry
  • electrical.

Please note that in order to be covered by our workers’ insurance, our volunteers must be financial members of the Melbourne Tram Museum.

If you are interested in contributing to conservation of our tramway history as a valued volunteer, please contact us or call in on one of our open days. We are always ready to talk with you about volunteering opportunities.
